On the morning of December 2, 2016, the awarding ceremony of the first "Xiao Jimei - Safetech Scholarship" was held at Room 404, the Corrosion Building of University of Science and Technology Beijing. Prof. Qu Xuanhui, Dean of New Material Technology Research Institute and Ms. Wang Xiuyun, General Manager of Safetech Research Institute , Prof. Wu Chunjing, Director of New Material Technology Research Institute, Prof. Qiao Lijie, Director of Corrosion and Protection Center, and Li Qian, Vice President of New Material Technology Research Institute, attended the award ceremony.

At the ceremony, Ms. Wang Xiuyun announced the winners' list and presented 11 master and 4 doctoral scholarships for the first "Xiao Jimei - Safetech Scholarship".

After the awarding, Ms. Wang Xiuyun made a brief introduction to Safetech Research Institute: SRI is a third-party research and assessment organization with high-level expertise. SRI has a world- leading technical team, who endeavors to solve safety technical problems encountered by facilities and structures in the modern oil and gas industries. The technical services include cathodic protection, AC/DC interference, corrosion direct assessment, integrity technology, coating performance evaluation, hydrogen embrittlement and damage, failure analysis, material applicability assessment, chemical selection and evaluation and new corrosion control technologies.  SRI aims at serving as a good doctor for the industries and to be a guardian for production safety.  At present, it has completed more than 300 research and service projects in the field of corrosion control and received good reputation in large enterprises in the areas of petroleum, electric power, steel, aviation, transportation, communication and so on.

Safetech Research Institute and University of Science and Technology Beijing set up the "Xiao Jimei - Safetech Scholarship" together, hoping to guide more excellent students to join the material anticorrosive industry, to promote future technical development, and to enhance the self- creativity of China's material service industry. The vision of the Scholarship contains the spirit of tireless truth-seeking.

Safetech Research Institute started to fund the scholarship in 2015, to commemorate the material corrosion industry leader, Academician Xiao Jimei, who was also a professor of University of Science and Technology Beijing. And by recognizing and awarding to the students in the subjects of corrosion at USTB, SRI　hopes to encourage students to follow the steps of the academicians in diligent study and to make significant contributions for the country's future scientific development and economic construction.
